A faction of the Sinaloa Cartel has reportedly erected narco-banners threatening to target American citizens in tourist areas like Los Cabos, Mexico, in retaliation for recent law enforcement actions. The threats, allegedly signed by Los Chapitos, directly addressed U.S. officials including FBI Director Kash Patel.
Authorities located two banners in Baja California over the weekend, which warned that beginning October 5, 2025, Americans residing in cartel-controlled regions would be “eliminated.” Mexican officials quickly removed the messages.
The content of one banner stated:
“We will begin to eliminate every American citizen residing in areas where we have a presence… starting October 5, 2025.” MetropoliMx
The dramatic escalation comes amid heightened cartel pressure following raids on labs and weapon seizures in Mexico, which cartel operatives cite as justification for their threats.
U.S. authorities have not yet publicly commented on whether the threats will prompt heightened security or travel advisories in affected regions. Meanwhile, the banners are being treated as part of ongoing investigations into cartel operations and cross-border security concerns.
The situation adds to growing fear among American tourists and residents in Mexico, especially in regions with heavy cartel presence. Travelers and expatriates are being urged to follow U.S. State Department travel advisories, which already warn of kidnapping, violence, and the limited capacity of U.S. consular assistance in parts of Mexico.
