Illinois State Police officers arrested a protester wearing a clown nose after the individual broke through security barricades surrounding the ICE Broadview Detention Facility on Tuesday afternoon.
According to authorities on the scene, the suspect — described as a left-wing protester — ignored multiple warnings from law enforcement and attempted to breach the restricted perimeter during ongoing demonstrations against federal immigration enforcement.
Witnesses said the individual appeared “agitated” and was shouting obscenities before being tackled and handcuffed by troopers. Video from the scene shows officers escorting the protester away in restraints as other demonstrators chanted and shouted at police.
A spokesperson for the Illinois State Police confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and trespassing on federal property.
“Our officers acted swiftly to ensure the safety of everyone present,” the spokesperson said. “Breaching a secured area is a serious offense, especially during active federal operations.”
The incident occurred amid heightened tensions at the ICE facility, where state and federal officials have increased security following a series of recent clashes between anti-ICE activists and law enforcement.
As of Wednesday morning, the suspect’s identity had not been released, and no injuries were reported.
