A tense scene unfolded at a school board meeting in Augusta, Maine, after parents began undressing in protest of the district’s transgender athlete policy, leading to a heated confrontation with board members.
According to witnesses and video of the meeting, the protest erupted when parents claimed the policy allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports — and use girls’ locker rooms — violated student privacy and safety.
When board members tried to interject, calling for order, parent Nick Blanchard interrupted and made a pointed remark:
“Oh, so wait, wait, wait, wait… You feel uncomfortable? Because that’s what these young girls feel like when a boy walks into the locker room and starts unchanging in front of them.”
The comment drew loud reactions from the audience, with many attendees clapping in support while others called for calm.
The Augusta School Board has been reviewing its transgender participation policy amid growing national debate over fairness and privacy in school athletics.
Security intervened briefly to restore order, and no arrests were made. The board later adjourned early and stated that the policy discussion would resume at a future date.
Officials have not yet commented on the protest or whether disciplinary measures will be taken against participants.
